Synopsis

Along with the general population, the percentage of both Scs and St s living below the poverty line has indicated a declining trend between 1993-94 and 1999-00. Besides, the rate of decline in respect of the Scs living below the poverty line was marginally higher than that of the total population, thereby narrowing the gap between the Scs and the total population. The incidence of poverty amongst the Scs and the Sts continues to be far highest than that of the total population in respect of the Sts remains much lower than that of the total population, leading to an increase in the gap between the two. The high incidence of poverty among the Scs and Sts underlines the fact that a large number of them are landless with no productive assets, access to sustainable employment or minimum wages. This book provides deep insight into various dimensions of issues relating to the subject.
