Born in Australia, George Michell trained as an architect at the University of Melbourne before earning his PhD in Indian archaeology from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. His doctoral work focused on the Early Chalukya temples around Badami in Karnataka, laying the foundation for a lifetime of scholarship on Indian temple architecture.

John M. Fritz is a leading expert on South Indian archaeology whose decades-long work at Hampi has reshaped our understanding of medieval urbanism and sacred architecture. His partnership with George Michell stands as one of the most influential collaborations in South Asian heritage studies.
