While many countries have pulled the plug on such projects heeding to the privacy concerns, countries like India are going ahead with the project. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is issuing UID – Unique identification number or Aadhaar – to the residents of India as a proof of identity for better accessing benefits and government subsidies.
The book offers us a critical focus especially basing on the Christian vision of human being as envisaged in the teaching of the two prominent teachers of the Church, Thomas Aquinas and Pope John Paul II. It offers us insights into the ideological flaws in the conception and execution of creating an Indian national identity marker in the form of Aadhaar card in India. The author argues that in spite of the practical benefits that nay national or international identity markers could harness, through projects like Aadhaar adopted by the Indian government, their endorsement from a Christian point of view is problematic.
