Synopsis

"It is difficult to answer the question why does one write poetry. Apparently, poetry cannot solve any material problems of life. It cannot even console or address our pains and pleasure. Still, one continues to write lines, rhymed or unrhymed. Jean Cocteau once said – 'I know, poetry is indispensable. I do not know what for.'
Incidentally, Antara Charaborty, who composed the lyrics in this anthology, enjoys a nostalgia trip down the memory lane. She was, in her own words, a ‘troubled child’. Now, the grown-up girl lives elsewhere alone thinking of the lonely nights, the frozen dawns. She feels scared. Like an urbanite solitary reaper, she admits “there’s a deafening silence” in her 'morning auto ride'. She looks at different shades of a distant city and every time is reminded of her ordinary family life of her childhood. Every word of this anthology would like to make you believe that for a sensitive feminine soul like that of the poet, the home is where the heart is.
It gives me real pleasure to note that Antara has intentionally kept afar urban bitterness so evident in today’s poetry. She has no intention to prove that literary utterances must have a smell of ennui. On the other hand, we sympathize with her longing for lost comforts and the pain which arises out of it. She doesn’t accuse the society. She is not that comfortable with philosophical realizations. She, in a quite appreciating manner, states her existence, her mornings and nights, rides in autorickshaws, bougainvilleas “on my way home”.
Fortunately, sometime truth finds simpler paths to reveal itself. Antara’s poems bear testimony to this fact. It will be a relief to the reader lost in the dim-and-bustle of modern life and crossroads of complex allusions to find a way out 'far from the madding crowd' in her poems."
