is Professor of Old and Middle Irish at Maynooth University (Ireland) and PI of the ERC-funded project Chronologicon Hibernicum, which studies variation and change in the Old Irish language with advanced statistical methods. His research interests are the linguistics and philology of Old Irish and the Ancient Celtic languages (Lepontic, Gaulish, Celtiberian), and comparative Celtic and Indo-European linguistics. His book Sengoídelc. Old Irish for Beginners (Syracuse University Press 2006) is the most popular introductory textbook for Old Irish.
