DAVID STIFTER is Professor of Old and Middle Irish at Maynooth University (Ireland) and Irish PI of the jointly AHRC-IRC funded project OG(H)AM, in partnership with colleagues from the University of Glasgow. The project has the goal of creating a comprehensive database of all examples of the use of the Ogam script from the 4th to the middle of the 19th century, be it in inscriptions on stones, on portable objects, or in manuscripts. Stifter’s research interests are the linguistics and philology of Old Irish and the Ancient Celtic languages (Lepontic, Gaulish, Celtiberian), and comparative Celtic and Indo-European linguistics. His book Sengoídelc. Old Irish for Beginners (Syracuse University Press 2006) is the most popular introductory textbook for Old Irish.
