Ce catalogue rassemble une large sélection d'œuvres de la collection Isabel et Agustín Coppel (CIAC). Il accompagne une exposition du même titre, qui se tiendra à Madrid à partir du 21 février à la Sala de Arte Santander. La collection a été créée dans les années 1990, initialement axée sur l'art mexicain moderne. Cependant, au fil du temps, elle est devenue l'une des collections les plus remarquables du pays, réputée pour le cadre de fond qu'elle fournit pour l'art international moderne et contemporain.

C'est la première fois que l'Espagne présente une gamme aussi magnifique d'œuvres, dans une exposition présentant plus de cent vingt dessins, photographies, installations vidéo, peintures et sculptures, de plus de cinquante artistes différents. Les commissaires Magnolia de la Garza et Patrick Charpenel, ainsi que Baudelio Lara, ont soigneusement sélectionné les œuvres aujourd'hui rassemblées au Mexique. Bien qu'elles aient été réunies pour cette exposition, ces créations proviennent de nombreux lieux et contextes différents – comme il convient, étant donné le thème général de mestizaje, qui signifie une fusion de cultures.

L'exposition accompagnée se déroulera du 21 février au 11 juin 2017.

This catalogue collects a wide selection of works from the Isabel and Agustín Coppel Collection (CIAC). It accompanies an exhibition of the same title, which will be held in Madrid from February 21st at the Sala de Arte Santander. The collection was created in the 1990s, initially focused on modern Mexican art. However, over time it has grown to become one of the most outstanding collections in the country, renowned for the background framework it provides for modern and contemporary international art.

This is the first time that Spain has shown such a magnificent range of works, in an exhibition featuring more than one hundred and twenty drawings, photographs, video installations, paintings and sculptures, by more than fifty different artists. The curators Magnolia de la Garza and Patrick Charpenel, along with Baudelio Lara, have carefully selected the works now gathered in Mexico. While they have been brought together for this exhibition, these creations originate from many different places and contexts - as is fitting, given the overarching theme of mestizaje, meaning a fusion of cultures.

The accompanying exhibition will run from 21 February to 11 June 2017.
