Naoshi nació en Iwate, Japón, y actualmente vive y trabaja en Los Ángeles. Trabaja con la técnica del arte con arena, conocida en japonés como Sunae. Utilizando granos de arena de colores brillantes y relucientes, visualiza un mundo fantástico propio, impregnado de una sensación de nostalgia.Naoshi comenzó su carrera como artista de Sunae en 2004 en Japón, y desde 2007 ha expuesto su obra internacionalmente en Estados Unidos, Italia, Francia, Suiza, Alemania, China, Corea y Taiwán. Entre sus exposiciones más recientes se incluyen Hey! Ho! Let's Go: Ramones and the Birth of Punk (2016) en el Queens Museum de Nueva York, Small Gift Los Angeles: SANRIO 50th Anniversary Exhibition (2010) en el Barker Hangar de Los Ángeles, y URBAN SUPERSTAR Show (2009) en el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Donnaregina (MADRE) en Nápoles, Italia. En 2015, Overcup Press publicó el libro ilustrado de Naoshi ICE CREAM WORK, inspirado en una obra que dibujó a los 7 años titulada Ice Cream Walked.Para Naoshi, el Sunae es una herramienta visual para expresar visiones del mundo únicas. Además de crear sus propias obras, Naoshi elabora kits de Sunae, disponibles para el público, y realiza talleres con la esperanza de compartir la alegría de utilizar esta forma artística tan expresiva.
