“An enthralling, insightful journey of adventure, challenges, life lessons and consoling wisdom for travelers on all of life's long roads.” —Gregory David Roberts, Author of Shantaram
Five countries. Five months. Five million steps on the Camino de Santiago.
In 2020, while the world stood still, Gideon Enok found himself at the lowest point of his young life. In that darkness, a voice, mysterious but unmistakable, called him to a quest: Why don't you walk from Denmark to Santiago?
It was a daunting challenge: 3,500 kilometers, five countries, walking every day for five months - if you make it - but in that strange moment, he knew without hesitation that he would do it.
What he didn't know was that the journey of understanding within himself, through the agonies and ecstasies of five million steps on the Camino de Santiago, would give his life the serenity, insight, purpose and true love that had always eluded him.
The Pilgrim Spirit sees every day as another part of life's pilgrimage, and every other person as a fellow pilgrim. They meet with an open heart. They help, encourage and inspire with patience, gratitude and resilience. And they share truth and trust quickly and deeply, empowered by a common spiritual goal.
Walking with Gideon, in this honest, compelling memoir, we learn, as all pilgrims do, that what matters most in any journey is who you become along the way.

Gideon is an avid traveler who has spent more than sixteen years exploring the world, and has lived in several countries, including the United States, Slovakia, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, and Switzerland.Physical and spiritual tests like marathons, 10-day silent retreats, and a month of Ayurveda are some of the experiences and adventures he has embarked on to find his way. But it was first in 2020, when he once and for all really found his path, when a voice by the ocean asked, "Why don't you walk from Denmark to Santiago?"Two weeks later, he embarked on an epic journey through Europe during the 2020 worldwide pandemic. He had no idea why-only that he trusted the unknown and leaned on faith to guide the way. That experience transformed his life. It connected him with his favorite author, who later became his writing mentor, and in 2023 he met the love of his life.He is the author of The Pilgrim Spirit, which will be published on June 22, 2026.Gideon firmly believes that long-distance walking can change the world-one inner world at a time-because, as he says, "The longer you walk, the deeper you go."
