I have been writing about culture in London for twenty years and for all this time the Italian Cultural Institute has been - it is fair to say - a quiet, discreet place where everything was managed at its own pace, with a view to extreme education, with the right break for breakfast. You can imagine our surprise when a new director arrives in 2015 who blows up all that composed dignity. I don't think London has recovered yet.

Marco said he wanted the 130 different nationalities of London to be "contaminated, positively contaminated by Italian culture". And that was exactly what he did. Not a week goes by without Marco sending two or three emails, often the same day, inviting me to get to know writers, artists, scholars, directors, musicians from every cultural sphere, so that I can learn from the less listened voices of contemporary Italy.
