Ce volume rassemble les contributions présentées lors du colloque international "Sculpter à la Renaissance. Un art pour (é)mouvoir" organisé par le Musée du Louvre à Paris et le Castello Sforzesco à Milan pour accompagner l'exposition "Le Corps et l'Âme. De Donatello à Michel-Ange. Sculptures italiennes de la Renaissance", organisée entre 2020 et 2021 dans les salles des mêmes institutions ; le catalogue a été publié par Officina Libraria. Avec la participation de quelques-uns des plus grands spécialistes de la sculpture de la Renaissance, l'objectif est d'étudier les interactions, les influences et les échanges entre les arts plastiques et les autres formes d'art de la Renaissance capables de révéler les sentiments à travers l'expression du corps. Il s'agit également de replacer dans leur contexte social, dévotionnel et intellectuel les différentes manifestations du sentiment dont la sculpture est l'un des supports privilégiés. Les huit contributions de ce volume abordent plus particulièrement les thèmes de l'art sacré, en tentant d'expliquer leur évolution formelle en relation avec les transformations socioculturelles de l'époque, mais aussi avec les traditions locales et leur dramatisation.

Bormand Marc est conservateur au département des sculptures du Louvre, chargé de la sculpture italienne du Moyen Âge et de la Renaissance. Co-commissaire, entre autres, de l'exposition "Desiderio da Settignano - La découverte de la grâce dans la sculpture de la Renaissance" (Paris, Louvre, 2006-2007 , Florence, Bargello, 2007 , Washington, National Gallery of Art, 2007). En 2013, il a organisé avec Beatrice Paolozzi Strozzi l'exposition "La primavera del Rinascimento. La scultura e le arti a Firenze 1400-1460" au Museo Nazionale del Bargello à Florence et, entre 2013 et 2014, au Louvre à Paris.

Co-commissaire, among others, of the exhibition Desiderio da Settignano - La decouverte de la grace dans la sculpture de la Renaissance (Paris, Louvre, 2006-2007; Florence, Bargello, 2007; Washington, National Gallery of Art, 2007). In 2013, the exhibition TLa primavera del Rinascimento. La scultura e le arti a Firenze 1400-1460 was organised with Beatrice Paolozzi Strozzi at the Bargello National Museum in Florence and, between 2013 and 2014, at the Louvre in Paris. Beatrice Paolozzi Strozzi descendant of the historical Florentine Strozzi family, was the director of the national museum of Bargello in Florence in 2014. She is an ordinary academic of the art of design. These scientific publications are well-known, both in the domain of the Renaissance and in the art of the 20th century. She currently collaborates with the Louvre Museum. Monica Preti is currently the scientific director of Pistoia Museums. Historian of modern art, she worked on the history of the collection and on the relationship between art and literature in the Renaissance era. Francesca Tasso is currently director of the civic museums of Castello Sforzesco in Milan. She studied in particular Late Gothic and Renaissance art and the formation of the collections of the Milan museums. The most recent publications include: Vetri contemporanei al Castello Sforzesco.
