Saunders is currently the Pastor of Queen of Apostles Catholic Church in Alexandria, Virginia, Dean of the Graduate School of Christendom College and writes a weekly column for the Arlington Catholic Herald, the newspaper of the Diocese of Arlington.. He graduated from College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Accounting. His vocation to the priesthood began in 1975 at St. Charles Seminary in Philadelphia where he received a Master of Arts in Sacred Theology, graduated Summa cum laude and was ordained to the Holy Priesthood in May of 1984.
