Synopsis
'When I Think About Power' è una serie fotografica in bianco e nero realizzata da Eric Hart Jr. che presenta 60 ritratti incentrati sul concetto di potere in relazione all'esperienza dei neri queer. Fin da adolescente Hart ha sperimentato una certa difficoltà nell'affermare la propria identità. Questo processo, comune alla maggior parte degli adolescenti, per lui è stato particolarmente difficile in quanto nero e queer in uno stato storicamente conservatore come la Georgia. L'approccio alla fotografia ha rappresentato per lui un punto di svolta perchè gli ha permesso di acquisire quella sicurezza di cui sentiva la mancanza. Con una rinnovata fiducia in sè Hart ha finalmente potuto confrontarsi con il mondo, scoprendo una dinamica di forza e potere prima sconosciute. Questa serie documenta il viaggio alla scoperta del suo nuovo tono di voce, del suo potere interiore.

À propos de l?auteur
Georgia native and NYU graduate, Eric Hart Jr., is image-making artist based in Brooklyn, NY. As a photographer, Hart's stylized portraiture is an exploration of blackness and shifting identities within black culture. His visual language is influenced by the nuances of intersectionality. From masculinity, queerness, to dress, his work aims to display people like himself in all of their power and beauty. Hart's photo work has been published in publications such as Rolling Stone Magazine, The Washington Post, and i-D magazine, as well as praised by artists such as Beyoncé and Spike Lee. Hart is a two-time Gordon Parks scholar, 2022 Forbes 30 under 30 Art & Style select, 2022 Doritos SOLID BLACK Changemaker and in 2020 Hart was named one of Men's Health Magazine's 20-year-old maverisks changing America.
