Synopsis

Greatest Stars of the Opera is a completely up-dated new edition with the most recent commentaries on each singer's career, repertoire, stylistic and technical qualities. Opera was born with the singers. It was not by chance that the first composers were also the first interpreters of their own works and it is to the great voices of the vivid and fascinating story of opera, that this original, compelling reference, so rich in information, is dedicated. Illustrated with exceptional photographs, this updated edition is divided into categories. Tenors, sopranos, mezzo-sopranos, baritones and basses seem to compete in these pages, as on the stage, for the attention and interest of the reader. A historical introduction, chronological table and a glossary contribute to this detailed and complete presentation of those opera stars who are our most famous heroes and perhaps also our most spoilt. Certainly they are the most beloved stars who ever trod a stage and who have created opera.
