Synopsis

The book is published on the occasion of the exhibition """"""""nothing but material"""""""" organized by Centro Arti Visive Pescheria and located in the enchanting former Suffragio church in Pesaro from July 22nd to September 7th, 2006. In order to celebrate the ten years that have passed since the foundation of the Centro Arti Visive Pescheria, the British artist Tony Cragg will be presenting here seven monumental sculptures realised in the last eight years, from 1999 to the present day. All in different materials, to stress one of the most interesting aspects of his work: the relationship between form and material. In each of the works exhibited at the Centro Arti Visive Pescheria, the artist has established a different relationship with the material, which thus takes on an appearance springing from this symbiosis. Each lives its own life, and synthesises the thought that has brought about its creation in a form. Every object has a form and function. From the union between objects arise other forms, without their necessarily having a function. Every material is an image in itself. From a meeting between different materials emerge different images. Cragg transforms everyday objects into a group of form and material, in order to define an image. The book collects the photographic documentation of the exhibition and shows some images of the mounting. Texts and a conversation with the artist are edited by Ludovico Pratesi.
