Présentation de l'éditeur

This is the first volume entirely dedicated to Mimmo Jodice s little known colour photography. A surprising and beatiful publication it allows the reader todiscover far more about one of the great masters of contemporary Italian photography, as well as to see in a new light the unmistakable originality of his view of the world. The book features 200 illustrations and an introduction by the well-know author Walter Guadagnini and Valerio Dehò. Jodice, we read, only became a professional photographer from the age of 30. At first, his work was documentary: a socially-conscious presentation of the people & places he knew from the poor, working-class districts of his native Naples. In the 80 s, his lens was first drawn to the time-worn, antiquarian subjects illustrated here in the book. Born 1934 in Naples, Italy and currently resident there. Widely known in Europe and America as a leading Italian photographer. First noted in the 1960's for his conceptual and avant garde work searching the essence of photography, JODICE has worked on collaborations with many prominent artists active in the pop art, arte povera and Fluxus movements. Then moving on to collections with themes of place and time, and documentary photography taking up social issues, JODICE began to show beautiful monochromes and established a distinctive style developed between tranquility and tension. His works sublimate the grandiose theme about human existence in space and time in a grammar of photography all his own. His Mediterranean photography of the 1980's and 1990's in particular has been well received in the United States as well as Europe.
