Bernardo Bertolucci nasce nel 1941 nei dintorni di Parma. Il suo esordio nel cinema avviene come assistente alla regia nel film "Accattone" di Pier Paolo Pasolini. Il suo è un cinema dove le individualità dei protagonisti si trovano ad affrontare bruschi e sconvolgenti cambiamenti dettati da un mondo in subbuglio, inquieto ed incerto. La grande notorietà per Bertolucci arriva nel 1972 con "Ultimo Tango a Parigi", film scandalo che ha segnato un epoca. Nel 1987 arriva la consacrazione definitiva con il colossal "L'Ultimo Imperatore", pellicola che vince ben nove Oscar. Attraverso una selezione di rare foto sui set, manifesti cinematografici e una raccolta di brani contenuti nel CD allegato, il libro ripercorre tutte le tappe della carriera di questo straordinario artista.
