Even though Raimond Wouda and I are living in Amsterdam we realised that we didn't know anything about our city's harbour. The port has been, and still is, a very important part of the city. In 2002 we decided to join each other on a photographic investigation of the harbour. We started from the viewpoint of a sailor sailing into the port of Amsterdam. Imagining what this sailor would see from his ship, Raimond took landscape pictures from ships sailing into the port op of Amsterdam. I went into the docks and met the workers.
