Synopsis

This annual compilation of statistical data on the health economies of OECD member countries includes over 1000 series covering such areas as health status of population, medical facilities and resources, helth care expenditure, pharmaceutical activity and use, medical services, lifestyle and environmental determinants of health, demographic information, and economic information. Data are provided for the 29 OECD member countries and for the period 1960-1996. Some expenditure data are recorded for 1997. Data can be output in a number of choices of formats, including US dollars and other national currencies, per capita and percent of GDP calculations, and so on. Windows-compatible software allows the user to select, view, print out, graph and export the data. A new feature of this edition is that there is inclusion of flow charts showing the structure of each country's health care delivery system. These flow charts generally show how financing flows from individual tax or insurance contributions through governments or insurance companies to doctors, hospitals, and other health care providers.
