Ramesh Thakur is professor of international relations in the Asia-Pacific College of Diplomacy, Australian National University. He previously served as senior vice-rector of the United Nations University and assistant secretary general of the United Nations. John Tirman is the executive director of the Center for International Studies at MIT.
