Synopsis

This edition contains digital scans of Joseph Bertin's 1735 book listing thirty-eight interesting chess games in the notation of the day.

Bertin introduces some nineteen "rules" at the outset. An "Never crowd your game by too many men in one place."

The games are just that, listings of the setups and the moves. After each brief introduction, there is much "the white king's knight in his bishops's third square," etc. There is no analysis nor discussion. Nonetheless, interesting games for those willing to work out the moves.
