He played a significant role in the Quit India Movement and in shaping the educational policies of the newly independent nation. As Education Minister, Azad was instrumental in promoting technical and higher education, and he was a major force behind the establishment of institutions like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Azad was also a prolific writer and a respected intellectual.
