Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad (1888-1958) was an Indian scholar, freedom fighter, and the first Minister of Education in independent India. A prominent leader in the Indian independence movement, Azad was a key figure in the Indian National Congress and a strong advocate for Hindu-Muslim unity. He played a significant role in the Quit India Movement and in shaping the educational policies of the newly independent nation. As Education Minister, Azad was instrumental in promoting technical and higher education, and he was a major force behind the establishment of institutions like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Azad was also a prolific writer and a respected intellectual.
