His most important works include the novels Naukar ki Kameez (The Servant's Shirt; made into a movie by Mani Kaul), Khilega to Dekhenge(Once it Flowers) and Deewar Mein Ek Khirkee Rahati Thi(A Window Lived in the Wall) which won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1999.
