Sir Henry McMahon, a British colonial administrator, drew a line along the Himalayas at the Simla Convention of 1913-14, demarcating what would in later years become the effective boundary between China and India. General J.J. Singh, a highly decorated soldier, has served as the Chief of Army Staff and the Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee. He was closely associated with the planning and execution of the Kargil War at the army headquarters. After retirement, he was appointed as the governor of Arunachal Pradesh. He published his autobiography, A Soldier's General, in 2012.
