Zai Whitaker grew up in Mumbai in a family of naturalists and is the author of over 20 books, most of them for children and young adults, on environmental issues. She is the managing trustee of the Madras Crocodile Bank, which she started with Rom in 1976.
Romulus Whitaker, famously known as the “Snake Man of India”, established India’s first reptile parks and is a pioneer in the conservation of Indian reptiles, especially snakes and crocodilians. His awards include the Whitley Award for Nature, Rolex Award and the Padma Shri.
