"Cupid and Psyche" is a story from the ancient Roman novel "The Golden Ass" by Apuleius, which was written in the 2nd century AD. The story is a retelling of a Greek myth and has become one of the most famous love stories of all time. The story begins with a beautiful mortal woman named Psyche who is so stunning that people begin to worship her as if she were a goddess. This angers Venus, the goddess of love, who commands her son Cupid to make Psyche fall in love with the ugliest creature he can find. However, when Cupid sees Psyche, he falls in love with her himself and takes her away to a secret palace where he visits her every night, but she is not allowed to see his face. Over time, Psyche becomes homesick and asks Cupid if she can visit her family. Cupid agrees, but warns her not to let anyone see him or else he will be forced to leave her forever. When Psyche visits her family, they become jealous of her happiness and convince her to uncover the identity of her lover. Psyche breaks her promise to Cupid and sees his true form, which is so beautiful that she is struck with awe. However, Cupid is angry that she broke her promise and leaves her. Psyche is left alone and heartbroken, and decides to go on a journey to find Cupid and beg for his forgiveness. She faces several trials and obstacles along the way, but with the help of various gods and goddesses, she eventually finds Cupid and they are reunited.
