Carl Heinrich Becker (1876-1933) was a German orientalist, historian, and scholar of Islamic studies. Born in Cologne, Germany, Becker studied at the University of Bonn and obtained a PhD in Arabic studies in 1900. Becker's academic career focused on the history and culture of Islam, with a particular interest in the early Islamic period. He published several works on the subject, including "Christentum und Islam" (Christianity and Islam), which was a comparative study of the two religions. Becker continued to work as a scholar and teacher throughout his life, and in 1924 he began publishing his most famous work, "Islamstudien," a four-volume study of Islamic history and culture. The work was highly regarded and helped to establish Becker as one of the leading scholars in the field of Islamic studies. Despite his achievements, Becker's life was cut short when he died suddenly of a heart attack in 1933, at the age of 56.
