George William Thomson Omond MA FRHistS was a Scottish lawyer and author of many history books. He lived from 1846 to 1929. He was born on September 13, 1846, in Craigentor, which is near Crieff in Perthshire. The Rev. John Reid Omond was his father and was from Orkney. He was a minister of the Free Church of Scotland in the parish of Monzie in Perthshire and died in 1892. His mother was Margaret Jane Thomson. George went to the Edinburgh Academy and the University of Edinburgh for his education. In 1868, he finished with first class honors in classics and second class honors in philosophy. For his books about Belgium, he was made a Chevalier de l'Ordre de la Couronne (Belgium) and a fellow of the Royal Historical Society. He lived at 32 Royal Circus in the New Town of Edinburgh. He passed away on June 18, 1929. He married Margaret Isabella Alice Wright in Edinburgh on July 23, 1878. They had four children together: a son, three daughters, and a daughter-in-law.
