Synopsis

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar served as the Minister of Law and Justice, and the Chairman of the Drafting Committee after India achieved its independence in 1947. Ambedkar drafted several provisions in which he found the issues of States and minorities very challenging process. The Indian states, before independence, were ruled by the princely leaders, who were mostly apprehensive of joining the Indian Union. Minorities had an uncertain future in India, and Ambedkar had the task to accommodate them along with other groups, such as Scheduled Castes and Tribes. This volume discusses the Ambedkar's memorandum which was given to the Constituent Assembly. These are on minority communities and issue of state and statehood, the constitutional provisions and remedies in dealing with various Indian states and rights, provision, and protection given to the minorities.
