She penned 23 novels, 75 short stories, and almost thirty poems. Born in Grand Rapids, Ohio, to John E. MacGowan and Malvina Johnson MacGowan, her sister, Alice MacGowan, was also a writer. The family moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee, in 1865, where the two sisters attended both public and homeschooled schools. Their father, a Union Army colonel during the American Civil War, served as editor of the Chattanooga Times newspaper from 1872 to 1903. Anne McQueen was a popular American author whose works captured readers with their depth and emotional relevance.
