Synopsis

Christology of the Old Testament: And a Commentary on the Messianic Predictions, Vol. 1 by Ernst Wilhelm Hengstenberg is a foundational theological work that explores the prophetic references to Christ in the Old Testament. Hengstenberg, a noted German theologian and a key figure in the development of biblical criticism, aims to demonstrate that the Old Testament contains numerous foreshadowings and explicit predictions concerning the coming Messiah. In this first volume, Hengstenberg examines specific texts and passages from the Old Testament that he interprets as messianic prophecies. He provides detailed exegesis of various scriptural references, drawing connections between the predictions and their fulfillment in the New Testament. Hengstenberg’s analysis encompasses a range of themes, including the nature of the Messiah, His role in salvation, and the implications of His coming for both Israel and the broader world.
