The story begins with Queen Vashti being deposed for refusing to obey the king’s command. Ahasuerus seeks a new queen, and Esther, a Jewish orphan raised by her cousin Mordecai, is chosen for her beauty and grace. However, Esther conceals her Jewish identity upon entering the palace. Meanwhile, Mordecai uncovers a plot to assassinate the king, which he reports, earning the king's favor. The primary conflict arises when Haman, an ambitious royal advisor, is enraged by Mordecai’s refusal to bow to him and plots to annihilate all the Jews in the empire. Upon learning of this decree, Mordecai urges Esther to intervene. Esther bravely decides to reveal her Jewish heritage to the king, risking her life. She invites Ahasuerus and Haman to a series of banquets, where she ultimately exposes Haman’s plot against her people. In a dramatic turn, Haman is executed on the gallows he had prepared for Mordecai. The king issues a new decree allowing the Jews to defend themselves, leading to their salvation. The book concludes with the establishment of the festival of Purim, which commemorates the Jews' deliverance and their triumph over adversity.
