Her experience in the war and her compassion for those in need led her to establish the American Red Cross, which became a significant organization for disaster relief and humanitarian aid. In addition to her nursing work, she was also a teacher and a patent clerk. Clara Barton s leadership in the field of disaster relief was crucial in shaping the development of relief organizations in the United States. She passed away on April 12, 1912, at the age of 90 in Glen Echo, Maryland. Barton was the daughter of Sarah and Stephen Barton and had several siblings, including Stephen Barton, Sarah Barton Vassall, Dorothea Barton, and David Barton.
