Born on April 28, 1910, in Plainfield, New Jersey, Merwin's literary career spanned several decades, during which he became a prominent figure in genre fiction. In addition to his own name, he wrote under various pseudonyms, including Elizabeth Deare Bennett, Matt Lee, Jacques Jean Ferrat, and Carter Sprague.
