In The Myth of the 21" Century, Charles William Dailey enters the decadeslong debate over the meaning and 'proper' uses of the Australian sacred site of Uluru/Ayers Rock. Critiquing academics who reduce the natural feature to a Simulacrum of Tradition in order to further cynical, modern materialist projects, he exposes 'pop philosophers' and environment-alists-in-name who employ racial and emotional appeals under the guise of 'saving' a particular idea of Uluru. In opposition to this sophistry, Dr. Dailey reflects on what the Rock signifies from a more philosophical, authentically exploratory, perspective. The common belief that Aboriginals have a greater right to determine Uluru's destiny, he observes, is but a new variation on the Myth of the Blood — what Aboriginals are determines what Uluru is. Academics' use of racial tropes to promote 'indigenous peoples' and a religious-hued idea of 'the Environment' are clever devices for cajoling and berating the public into accepting favored interpretations of Uluru as well as nature itself. All are machinations in service to refashioning to current political ends the Nazi Alfred Rosenberg's thesis in The Myth of the Twentieth Century: "race or genetics is the key determinant in social and cultural evolution."

CHARLES WILLIAM DAILEY, Ph.D., is a researcher specializing in Comparative Religion & Philosophy and the Philosophy of History, with a focus on the meanings of ancient symbols and the concept of Tradition. He earned his doctorate in Philosophy from the University of North Texas, holds an M.A. in Philosophy from the University of Houston, and graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in History from Lamar University. Dr. Dailey is the author of The Serpent Symbol in Tradition and To Climb Is Philosophical. The Myth of the 21" Century is his third book.
