Edward Alan Sullivan was a Canadian poet and short story writer, born on 29 November 1868 in Montreal, Canada. He is best known for his 1935 historical adventure novel The Great Divide, which explores the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway, a monumental project in Canadian history. Sullivan's writing often delved into historical events, and his works were characterized by a blend of adventure and insight into the complexities of the past. In addition to The Great Divide, he wrote Three Came to Ville Marie, further cementing his reputation as an author of historical fiction. Throughout his life, Alan Sullivan was also known for his poetry, which complemented his narrative style. He passed away on 6 August 1947 in Tilford, United Kingdom, at the age of 78. Sullivan had two daughters, Natalie Sullivan and Kathleen Liddell Hart, and left behind a legacy of works that highlight important moments in history.
