À propos de l'auteur

Eugen Richter was born on July 30, 1838, in D sseldorf, Germany, to parents Carl Richter and Louise Richter. He became a prominent journalist and politician during the era of Imperial Germany, widely known for his commitment to classical liberalism. A vocal member of the Prussian Landtag and later the German Reichstag, he served as a leading figure among the Old Liberals. He was instrumental in founding the German Free-minded Party, through which he consistently opposed authoritarian tendencies and championed civil liberties, press freedom, and economic individualism. Educated at the University of Bonn, he developed strong views on state power, which he often expressed through sharp political commentary and satirical writing. His most enduring literary contribution, Pictures of the Socialistic Future, critiqued socialist ideology and warned against the potential dangers of state-imposed equality. He used both his legislative influence and his writing to argue for limited government and personal freedom. Despite operating in a period dominated by conservative and nationalist forces, he remained a consistent and influential voice for liberal values. Eugen Richter died on March 10, 1906, in Lichterfelde, Berlin, at the age of 67.
