Rosa Nouchette Carey was an English novelist and children's writer, best known for her works that were considered wholesome and reflective of the values of her time, particularly for young girls. She was born on 27 September 1840 in Bow, London, to parents who provided her with a stable upbringing. Her writing, though often portraying idealized situations, was also noted for containing elements of grit and realism, making her works resonate with a wider audience. She wrote numerous novels, many of which focused on moral and social issues, aiming to instill values of kindness, duty, and responsibility in her readers. While her works were well-received during her lifetime, her fame has since faded. Carey's ability to address complex emotions and situations, particularly in familial and social contexts, gave her a place in literary history. She passed away on 9 July 1909 at the age of 68 in Putney, London. Her writing career spanned several decades, leaving behind a collection of works that reflected the moral and social expectations of her era.

Paperback. Etat : new. Paperback. Herb of grace examines the quiet emotional tensions within a life divided between duty and longing. At its center is a man whose outward success in a professional career conceals a persistent yearning for artistic fulfillment. The narrative invites readers into an internal world where sensitivity to beauty and moments of quiet humanity stand in contrast to the expectations of a structured, respectable existence. From the outset, the central figure is portrayed through reflective observation his compassion, unvoiced regret, and sincere interest in the lives of others. A meeting with a craftsman and his disabled daughter highlights his instinct for kindness, while conversations with a close companion illuminate both camaraderie and the tension between action and thought. Another character's presence in his circle brings emotional clarity and introduces possibilities that test his inward life. The novel dwells in subtle exchanges, capturing how small experiences shape larger emotional realities. This journey is not defined by dramatic incident but by the quiet persistence of a spirit seeking truth, meaning, and grace within the constraints of a well-ordered world.
