The stories read in my childhood, conducive environment of reading at home and contribution of my revered teachers, helped me develop my love for the Hindi language. I travelled a lot in and outside India during my service days and after my retirement when I met and/or observed many interesting characters who inspired me and provided ideas to write some of the stories. Imagination and experience helped me to attempt in depiction of these characters of life scattered here and there in this book "Tukda-Tukda Zindagi". You will notice some of the characters in this book - a sightless person searching for a scent in the air, sudden appearance of an unfortunate soul from the past which left an everlasting guilt conscience, a photographer who could not match with the changing technological advances, a forgotten singer who used to be the life of programs and parties, an unsuccessful love story of a cook, accepting harsh reality of life over his love, an unpleasant encounter of a teacher with his past student and a sad story of a renowned Guru. In the short novel "Wapasi" the hero from a poor rural background comes to a city for higher studies and proves himself, then in untoward circumstances runs away to a foreign country to become famous but his past brings him back from where he had run away. Readers are requested to give their critical views about the book.

I retired as a Senior Scientist in April 2017 from the Forest Research Institute, Dehradun, India after putting in 33 years of service. I attained my primary, secondary and college education from Almora, Uttarakhand in India. I obtained my Ph. D. degree in Botany from the Kumaun University, Naini Tal, India in 1982. Besides academic and professional achievements, I was engaged in the theatre and performed as an actor, director, script writer and stage manager. I wrote poems and ghazals in Hindi and published a poetry collection "Khwab-si Khwahishen" (Desires like Dreams) in 2023. I nurtured my hobby of reading stories and novels since childhood. Day-to-day life has given me experiences which inspired me to write some short stories and a short novel, which I am presenting in this book "Tukda-Tukda Zindagi" (Scattered Pieces of Life).
