He served as Roman emperor from 161 to 180 and was a prominent Stoic philosopher. As a member of the Nerva Antonine dynasty, he belonged to the line of rulers later known as the Five Good Emperors, a period associated with relative stability and effective governance. He married Faustina the Younger in 145 AD and had several children, including Commodus, Lucilla, and Marcus Annius Verus Caesar, with Commodus later succeeding him as emperor.
