Synopsis
So far working stress method was used for the design of steel structures. Nowadays, whole world is going for the limit state method which is more rational. Indian national code IS:800 for the design of steel structures was revised in the year 2007 incorporating limit state method. This book is aimed at training the students in using IS: 800-2007 for designing steel structures by limit state method. The author has explained the provisions of code in simple language and illustrated the design procedure with a large number of problems. It is hoped that all universities will soon adopt design of steel structures as per IS: 2007 and this book will serve as a good textbook. A sincere effort has been made to present design procedure using simple language, neat sketches and solved problems.

Biographie de l'auteur
S.S. Bhavikatti obtained his Ph.D. in 1977 from I.I.T. Delhi. He served NITK Surathkal in different positions like Head of Civil Engg. Dept.; Chairman, Centre for Continuing Education; Chairman, Central Computer Centre and Dean. He has also served SDM College of Engineering and Technology, Dharwad; Rao Bahadur Y. Mahabaleswarappa Engineering College, Bellary (formerly Vijayanagar Engg. College) and B.V.B. College of Engg. & Technology, Hubli. He has published more than 60 technical papers in national and international journals and seminars and 22 books in civil engineering. He guided 66 candidates for M.Tech thesis and 5 candidates for Ph.D. He was a member of organizing/ scientific communities of international seminars organized by I.A.S.S. held at Taegue (South Korea) in 1990, Tokyo (Japan) in 1993 and Taipei (Taiwan) in 1997. He is a member of several Indian and international professional bodies.
