Vertigo is the feeling that everything around is moving or spinning and is usually caused by a problem with the balance mechanisms in the inner ear. It can also be caused by problems in certain parts of the brain or vision disorders. Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is one of the most common causes of vertigo causing brief episodes of mild to intense dizziness. BPPV is usually triggered by specific changes in the position of the head, when tipping the head up or down, when lying down, or when turning over or sitting up in bed.
