Synopsis

I am Kim. I am Kim. And what is Kim?' His soul repeated it again and again. Kimball Kim OHara, an Irish orphan, leads a hand-to-mouth existence. He begs on the streets of Lahore, British India, and runs small errands for Mahbub Ali, a horse trader and spy. One day, when he befriends an old Tibetan lama who is on a quest to find the legendary and sacred River of the Arrow, Kim becomes his disciple and follows him on his quest to attain enlightenment. What happens as they journey together along the Grand Trunk Road and learn about the Great Game? A riveting coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of the Anglo-Russian rivalry in Central Asia at the end of the nineteenth century, Rudyard Kiplings Kim is a timeless classic. It has undergone several film and television adaptations, and continues to remain noteworthy.

A propos du livre

À propos de l'auteur

Born on December 30, 1865, in Bombay, India, Joseph Rudyard Kipling was one of the most-acclaimed writers, of both prose and verse, of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He spent his early childhood in India, and his exposure to the native languages in the subcontinent greatly influenced his writing style and clearly reflects in his works. Apart from his poems for children, Kipling is remembered for his tales and poems about British soldiers in India. His most-famous works include The Jungle Book, Kim, Just So Stories, The Man Who Would Be King, If and The White Mans Burden. Kiplings significant contribution to the field of literature won him the Nobel Prize in 1907, making him the first English language writer, and the youngest till this date, to receive the prize. He died on January 18, 1936.
