Chhattisgarh borders the states of Madhya Pradesh in the northwest, Uttar Pradesh in the north, Jharkhand in northeast, Maharashtra in the southwest, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in the south, Odisha in the southeast. Currently the state comprises 27 districts.

It consists of an executive, led by the Governor of Chhattisgarh, a judiciary and a legislative branch. The key political players in Chhattisgarh state in central India are the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, Indian National Congress, Janta Congress Chhattisgarh and Bahujan Samaj Party.
