Doch nicht nur diese weltberühmten Charaktere stammen aus der Feder von René Goscinny, der seine größten Erfolge zusammen mit dem Zeichner Albert Uderzo feierte. Auf das Konto des Autors gehen auch weniger bekannte, aber ebenso bezaubernde Figuren wie Umpah-Pah, die Rothaut" oder der Großwesir Isnogud". Dabei versuchte sich René Goscinny, in Paris geboren und in Buenos Aires aufwachsen, zunächst selbst als Zeichner. In seiner New Yorker Zeit brachte er erste Zeichnungen in dem in den 50er-Jahren frisch gegründeten Magazin MAD" unter. Zurück in Frankreich, gab er das Zeichnen dann aber auf und widmete sich nur noch dem Schreiben mit überwältigendem Erfolg. 1977 starb René Goscinny im Alter von nur 51 Jahren in Paris.
