Dr. B. R. Ambedkar dreamt of an India which is a society, free from social evil of caste discrimination. 70 years after independence, we're still divided in Castes. This book is a tiny effort to passionately work towards fulfilling that incomplete dream.

About the Author: Vasant Parmar is an activist running “Jati Mukt Bharat” campaign through online awareness posts on various social media platforms. A software engineer by profession, and inspired by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s writings, he pledges to fulfill incomplete dream of Baba Saheb. Dream of casteless society. But a big question remain is “how”. Majority of the discussion around Caste issues revolve around reservation and ends without any conclusion. Here are some of his thoughts on abolishing caste discrimination.

Casteism is an inherent bias which must be overcome. People use religion and scriptures just to superimpose their biases and justify the inhuman discriminatory behavior. Though caste discrimination is prohibited by law in India, it is still prevalent in the rural areas. While the end of caste system may not be logical, certainly there are ways to end casteism.

In the urge to promote India a superpower, we ignore the basic issues such as casteism. At first, we must stop denial. Unless we talk and discuss it, there won’t be any everlasting solution. Let us accept that as a society we have a addiction to discrimination. So, what we can do at our individual level is, “don’t discriminate.”

For examples, next time that you take a separate glass to give water to your maid or someone “them”, don’t do it. If you see a family member practice caste discrimination, stop them, explain them. It is your duty. Stop using discriminatory slangs that have casteist origin. Stop using surnames.

Another great thing in life is friendship. Friends for the life are god’s gift. Expand friendships outside your normal groups and comfort zone. Make friends and talk to people who don’t share your value systems. This will open a new paradigm for you as to how you perceive and judge people.

Last but utmost important is, marry not on based of caste. Don’t let your love life get impacted with outdated caste system. The process is slow and painstaking, but starts with not government or society, but with us, as an individual.
