As an art lover and connoisseur, journalist Eric Rinckhout lost his heart to the South of France. In this guide, he sets out to prove that when talking about art and culture, the region between Collioure and Menton can easily compete with Paris. This book is more than just a guide for visitors: it makes for an excellent, instructive and inspiring read for anyone who’s keen to learn more about the artists, writers, musicians and filmmakers who lived and worked in the South of France. Relying on his passion and knowledge, Eric describes more than 380 must-see spots and destinations: from villages that inspired chansons to film sets; from the chapel that Louise Bourgeois decorated to Matisse’s studio and Nabokov’s flat; from Eileen Gray’s modernist villa E-1027 to the artful trams of Montpellier, from the world’s oldest cinema in La Ciotat to street art in Marseille and Toulouse. Discover these unique places in inspiring lists such as: impressive pieces of public art, the houses of painters, writers and musicians, gardens as works of art, must-visit museum restaurants and much more.
