Synopsis
De Engelse kunstenaar Henry Moore (1898- 1986) is zonder twijfel een van de belangrijkste en bekendste beeldhouwers van de twintigste eeuw. Museum Beelden aan Zee organiseert een groots overzicht van zijn werk, waar dit boek bij verschijnt. Centraal staan Moore’s inspiratiebronnen en de wijze waarop hij zich liet leiden door de aard van de materialen die hij gebruikte. In het boek worden niet alleen topstukken uit zijn oeuvre getoond, maar ook door Moore in de natuur verzamelde voorwerpen en studies in klei en gips die de aanzet vormden tot zijn beroemde monumentale beelden in hout, steen of brons. Deze publicatie biedt daarmee een interessante blik op diens werkwijze en ontwikkeling. Aan de hand van ca. 100 voorwerpen en sculpturen direct afkomstig uit zijn ateliers wordt duidelijk gemaakt hoe een van de belangrijkste vernieuwers van de beeldhouwkunst zijn modernistische sculpturen vormgaf.
