Max Pinckers (b. 1988) is a Belgian artist/photographer. In his work he explores the critical, technological and ideological structures which underpin the creation and consumption of documentary images. For Pinckers, creating a documentary is a speculative process in which reality and truth can be used as multiple and mouldable concepts. He has received several international prizes, including the Prix Levallois, the Edward Steichen Award Luxembourg and the Leica Oskar Barnack Award. Hans Theys (b. 1963) has written and designed more than 50 books about the work of contemporary artists and has published hundreds of essays, interviews and reviews in books, catalogues and magazines. All these publications are based on collaborations or conversations with the artists in question.

Dit drietalige boek is het voorlopige hoogtepunt van tien jaar samenwerking tussen de fotograaf Max Pinckers en de schrijver Hans Theys, die toestemming kreeg om met een persoonlijke selectie uit alle foto’s van Pinckers een klassiek fotoboek te maken zonder rekening te hoeven houden met hun oorspronkelijke context. De publicatie bevat ook een essay waarin Theys Pinckers’ oeuvre beschouwt vanuit enkele gedachten van Susan Sontag.

Max Pinckers (°1988) is een Belgische kunstenaar-fotograaf. In zijn werk verkent hij de kritische, technologische en ideologische structuren die ten grondslag liggen aan het vervaardigen en consumeren van documentaire beelden. Voor Pinckers is documentaire een speculatief proces waarin realiteit en waarheid als meervoudige en kneedbare begrippen ingezet kunnen worden. Hij werd verschillende keren bekroond met internationale prijzen, waaronder de Prix Levallois, de Edward Steichen Award Luxembourg en de Leica Oskar Barnack Award.

Deze publicatie verschijnt ter gelegenheid van de solotentoonstelling Max Pinckers – Double Bind in FOMU Antwerpen van 26 november 2021 tot 13 maart 2022.

Hans Theys (°1963) schreef en ontwierp meer dan vijftig boeken over het werk van hedendaagse kunstenaars en publiceerde honderden essays, interviews en recensies in boeken, catalogi en tijdschriften. Al deze publicaties zijn gebaseerd op samenwerkingen of gesprekken met de kunstenaars in kwestie.
