Venerable Matara Sri Nanarama Mahathera (1901-92), the inspiration and guiding light behind this book, was one of Sri Lanka's most distinguished meditation masters of recent times. From 1967 until his death in 1992 he was the resident meditation master of the Nissarana Vanaya Hermitage and also the head master of the Sri Kalyani Yogasrama Association, a monastic organization of the forest tradition.
